Objectives

This work-package brings together all activities concerning training including knowledge management and transfer. Knowledge management and the exploitation and the dissemination of results are key elements of TIMODAZ.

Description of work

- The training constitutes an important component of the TIMODAZ project. Workpackage 7 aims to provide both training within the consortium and training of scientists and engineers outside the consortium. Training activities will be coordinated by ITC. In organising the courses, ITC will act essentially as a facilitator, by devising appropriately the course structures and content, locating and contracting the most appropriate tutors, integrating presentations, moderating discussions, developing the course materials and providing facilities for teaching. As part of the dissemination activities of the project the two training courses will be organised to disseminate the results generated by TIMODAZ in the two following specific domains: THMC behaviour of clays and the impact of THMC processes on performance assessment. The other partners (1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10) will assist ITC for training activities and mentoring of young researchers by contributing to the scientific organisation as well as giving some lectures. They will provide technical and manpower support for the organisation of workshops and training courses.

- Three end-users oriented workshops will be organised by ITC in order to better define end-user needs that will allow researchers to fully understand the specific problems for which their research is targeted. Workshops will feature presentations of the research being conducted in the TIMODAZ project by the principal investigators, with end-user participation and feed-back. Such workshops will allow the researchers to learn about and discuss actual needs with the end-users. At the same time, national agency representatives and other end-users have an opportunity to hear about scientific developments achieved in the project.

A knowledge management tool will be developed by the coordinator and implemented at the initial stage of the Project. The knowledge management system will be built up in such a way that it can be used as a tool for these training sessions.

- An international conference/workshop will be organised. The event will be organised in close cooperation between ITC and the coordinator. Sponsors will be solicited to support the expert's and reporter's costs. ITC will be in charge of all secretarial work (including announcements, conference web site, preparation meeting notes and review organisation). No additional costs are foreseen for the conference and workshop rooms. Possibility to co-organise this conference with the EC services will be investigated.

- After consultation with partners and the project coordinator, the partners will disseminate methods and results to a wider audience out of the consortium members through production of journal papers and papers at relevant conferences. The contacts of the TIMODAZ partners involved in MUSE and ALERT networks will be helpful for the exploitation and dissemination of the results. Folders about the TIMODAZ activities will also be edited.
